Face Fit TESTING
Respiratory Face Fit Testing (Qualitative)
All your employees who wear tight-fitting Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) must have a certificate to prove that the respiratory protective equipment they wear during work not only fits them, but also allows the effective protection necessary for the task being performed. Face Fit Testing is a Legal Requirement. All testing is conducted by one of our accredited trainers.
Where respiratory protective equipment (RPE) is used, it must be able to provide adequate protection for individual wearers. RPE can't protect the wearer if it leaks. A major cause of leaks is poor fit – tight-fitting facepieces need to fit the wearer’s face to be effective.
As people come in all sorts of shapes and sizes it is unlikely that one particular type or size of RPE facepiece will fit everyone. Fit testing will ensure that the equipment selected is suitable for the wearer.
For RPE to be effective, its use should be integrated into normal workplace activities. You need to make sure that control measures, including RPE, are properly used and are not made less effective by bad work practices, inadequate training or improper use.
Your employees need to use RPE in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the training and instruction you provide. If RPE is not worn properly, it will not provide the required protection. It is often best, if possible, to give a choice of several adequate and suitable RPE to wearers so they can choose the one they find most comfortable.
Never use in oxygen-deficient atmospheres.
Never use a particle filter to protect against gases/ vapours or gas/vapour-only filters against particulates.
Never use if dirty, damaged or incomplete.
Store in a clean area and clean your RPE after each use.
